Fostering the long-term sustainability of ICOS RI is RINGO’s main goal. Each of the five work packages (WP) of RINGO will specifically tackle one aspect of sustainability:
WP 1 activities are focusing on the impact of ICOS in all its facets and new scientific approaches to further deepen it.
In WP 2 managers, stakeholders and scientists from nine countries not yet involved in ICOS will be trained in order to enlarge the membership of ICOS ERIC and increase European coverage.
Further technical developments resulting on the scientific concepts elaborated in WP 1 will be supported in WP 3 and the respective development of the ICOS data life cycle is in the focus of WP 4.
Wires from all previous WPs are connected in WP 5 to an international framework where existing cooperation with global scientific networks and the ICOS involvement in global observations are deepened.
The ambition is to establish ICOS as European pillar of the global in-situ system on carbon and GHG resulting from COP 21.
