Open position: junior scientific programmer at ICOS Carbon Portal @ Lund University

ICOS Carbon Portal at Lund University is looking for a junior scientific programmer who can adapt and integrate existing scientific software into the web service framework of ICOS Carbon Portal. The original codes are mainly written in Fortran, Python and R, and the interfacing will require making use of scripts, Python and/or Scala and Java. You will work on the automation of the processing workflow and be responsible for the retrieval and pre-processing of for example operational meteorological data that are used in our scientific models and services.

You will be part of our team of currently 5 other developers and 4 (data) scientists, working on the joint ICOS Carbon Portal open source codebase.

Qualifications
You have a relevant professional or academic degree at the bachelor level or equivalent and preferably 1-2 years of programming experience. Documented experience in several of the following list of relevant technologies, skills and tools is needed: Bash scripting, Linux administration, maps and GIS, Python, R, SQL, working with scientific data, binary data formats. Proficient mastery of the English language is required.

Merits
Experience with Fortran and C++ is highly recommended. Experience with netcdf data and manipulation with the CDO software suite is also recommended. Affinity with environmental and climate research, and exploration and analysis of complex datasets through visualisations is recommended.

The initial offer of the position is fixed-term for two years.
