ICOS has a strong observational network producing reliable, high quality data. As a highly distributed research infrastructure, the operations and network coordination require continuous development of processes and best practices. At the same time a full management plan of ICOS research infrastructure (RI) is under development, forming a major additional task for the Head Office. For this transition phase, we seek a fixed-term
Junior Officer, Network Development
to establish, maintain and develop the network management processes.
Junior Officer, Network Development will work in Unit 2 – Operations and support the Head of Unit in the network coordination and development tasks.
The role includes:
- Supporting the coordination and development of the operations
- Drafting background and process documents for developing the network categorisation, upgrading stations, integrating new stations etc.
- Supporting the process for introducing new elements in ICOS RI
- Drafting process documents for decision making, network changes, supporting and developing methods for change control
- Fact finding and benchmarking
- Maintaining and developing the station network meta-database, and maintaining contacts such as email lists.
- Supporting the compilation of the management plan on national networks management processes
- Communicating with the stations
- Assisting in potential projects related to the National Networks
The position is a full-time, fixed-term position until December 31, 2019, and it can be filled immediately. The position is located in Helsinki, Finland.
To succeed in this role
A successful candidate should hold a university degree and have basic knowledge and some experience on research infrastructures, and measurement networks. He/she should have good skills to work within an international community, flexible approach to varying tasks, good organisational and administrative skills. Ability to work under pressure, and to organise and prioritise tasks in order to meet tight and compelling deadlines is appreciated. Ability to work in a team, as well as independently, and to manage own workload are also necessary skills. A successful candidate should have a high degree of motivation and ability to work towards a common long-term goal and experience in planning and organizing meetings and workshops. Fluency in written and spoken English is a mandatory requirement.
The salary in this position will be 3800 euros, but own ideas can be expressed. There is a six-month trial period. ICOS ERIC is an equal opportunity employer.
